A really unique twist on mittens with a purpose. Yes, we all know mittens are superior for cold weather comfort/survival, but they're just not at all practical in any modern sense. Enter the "Lobster" work-mitten, with fully functional index finger and thumb operability, while ensconcing your less dexterous aft-fingers into a more mitten-y comfort zone. A really nice feature not immediately apparent is the way the mitten area provides individually stitched "finger tunnels" for each of the three mittened fingers providing the best of both worlds. I'd recommend these mittens, heartily, at anything around 20F or less. Anything warmer and you could be overdressed.

The Iron Fencers make great gloves for switchmen and conductors on the railroad. The reinforced palm and index finger insures the longevity of the glove while handling switches, derails, brake hoses, handbrakes, etc. They’re also great around the shop for metal work. They do tend to shrink up if used in wet weather, so look for a waterproof alternative on wet weather days. Otherwise, the Iron Fencer is my choice in leather gloves.
